Welsh is one of Europe’s oldest living languages and possibly the oldest written language, with Welsh poetry dating back to the 6th century. It is a language that has been under an enormous amount of pressure over the past centuries, but is growing stronger with the popularity of Welsh medium schools, a Welsh TV channel S4C, and also the continual pressure from The Welsh Language Society – a non-violent, direct action pressure group established in 1962 campaigning for the future of the language.
Ceredigion is one of the counties in Wales where the Welsh language is strongest.
